NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa – Connor McCaffery led Iowa City West High to an undefeated run at the Corridor Classic high school event here at the rec center during the weekend. The junior point guard and Hawkeye commitment continued to show why he’s a Top 100 recruit in the Class of 2017.

EVALUATION: The oldest son of Iowa Head Coach Fran McCaffery, Connor McCaffery is on course to be a four-year starter for one of the state’s top programs. The list of prospects able to say that is a short one.

I’ve seen Connor as a freshman, during this past season when he was a sophomore and again on Saturday. Like fine wine, he’s gotten better with age.

McCaffery is starting to fill out his long, 6-foot-5 frame. The added strength helps him with dribble penetration and finishing at the rim when he gets there, and he can post up. His outside shot also looks to be smoothing out now that he’s stronger.

McCaffery showed excellent court sense the first time I saw him but he’s even taken that to the next level as well. When he’s in the game, the offense runs crisply and the team usually gets good looks.

Really, the last pieces for McCaffery, who we must remember still has half his high school career to play, are to continue to work on consistency with his outside shot, maybe add in a pull-up/mid-range game and improve lateral quickness and foot speed to better defend smaller point guards.

We’re picking nits, though. There’s no reason to thin continued development won’t occur considering how much progress he’s made to date.

Here’s are some Connor McCaffery highlights from the weekend:
