Brandon Simon was scheduled to visit Syracuse on Saturday. That trip was canceled.

The Ramsey (NJ) Don Bosco Prep defensive end became the 17th known verbal commitment to Iowa’s 2016 recruiting class. He’s the 15th prospect to jump on board with the Hawkeyes since May 18th.

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Simon visited Iowa last weekend for the schools annual recruiting tailgate. During it, he found a home.

"Iowa is a special place and after the visit I immediately fell in love with the school. It’s going to be a great place for me academically and for football. I can’t wait," he told AllHawkeyes.com.

Simon said he’s being recruited as a defensive end. While one or two may move, Iowa has Cedrick Lattimore, Chauncey Golston and Austin Schulte as pledges at that position this cycle. IL DE Romeo McKnight could join the part when he announces on Monday.

"(The Iowa coaches) said I’m a very explosive player. I love them. I can’t wait to play for them," Simon said.

Simon said he plans to be in pre-law when he enrolls at Iowa.

Rivals ranks Simon as a three-star recruit and the No. 26 player overall in New Jersey. Scout.com pegs him as a three-star and the No. 11 defensive end in the East. He’s unranked by 247.
