Hawkeyes Reel In Rugamba

The Iowa coaches aren’t sure where to line up Emmanuel Rugamba. They just know they want him to line up for the Hawkeyes.

"They say they see me at both wide receiver and cornerback," the Naperville (IL) Central High senior said.

Iowa picked up a commitment from Rugamba on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder was thought to be the 22nd pledge in the 2016 Recruiting Class.

Rugamba also reported scholarship offers from, among others, Boston College, Indiana, Illinois, UConn, Iowa State and Pittsburgh. He decided Iowa was the right choice for him when he visited the Big Ten school for this weekend’s prospect tailgate.

"I was kind of 50-50 about committing before I went there again," he said. "But when I got there for a second time, it really all sunk in. The family feel of the school, the coaching staff and the community is what I was looking for."

Rivals ranks Rugamba as the No. 66 receiver nationally in the class and the No. 12 player in Illinois regardless of position. He’s 247’s No. 153 wideout and No. 30 overall in his state. Scout lists him at No. 99 at receiver and the No. 12 player at that position in the Midwest.

"I have more of a presence at the wide receiver position but I also love playing cornerback," Rugamba said.

The Hawkeyes offered a scholarship to Rugamba in May.

"They said they liked the upside I have and the competitiveness. The coaches said I have some of the same attributes of some of the great players they’ve had," he said.

Rugamba said he’s considering college majors in Business or Pharmacy.

Here’s a report from Scout’s Allen Trieu:

Quick-footed receiver who understands how to run routes and has the smoothness to create separation. Has excellent all-around positional skills. He catches the ball very naturally and despite not being the biggest kid, can go up and get the ball and make tough grabs in traffic. Can still get stronger and improve straight line speed, but also shows elusiveness and ability after the catch.
