Wirfs Taking Time with Recruiting Process
DONNELLSON, Iowa – Tristan Wirfs popped up on the recruiting radar this summer after camping at Iowa and earning a scholarship offer from the Big Ten program. The Class of 2017 offensive lineman from Mount Vernon High has built momentum from there with a strong junior year.
The Mustangs advanced to the Class 2A Quarterfinals here on Monday with a 41-28 victory against Central Lee. They trailed by three touchdowns at halftime and scored 34 unanswered points after the intermission in moving on to play at Anamosa Friday.
Wirfs contributed a great deal to Monday’s win as he had all season for 9-2 Mount Vernon. The left tackle has protected sophomore quarterback Drew Adams in stellar fashion.
The Hawkeyes have played host to Wirfs for multiple unofficial visits to games at Kinnick Stadium this fall. While focused on the rest of the season, the 6-foot-5, 265-pounder has scheduled upcoming trips to Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota, all teams that have come in on him this fall.
“I haven’t actually met any of the coaches (from Michigan, MSU and Minnesota). I’ve gotten letters from them so I’m excited to meet them. They’ve been sending me game invites and saying they want to have me there,” Wirfs said.
Iowa continues to build a relationship with him.
“It’s really great. It’s always good to go back down there and see everybody again. It’s nothing but good from there,” Wirfs said.
Wirfs said he’s taking his time with the recruiting process. He’s not planning on committing anywhere before next summer, he said.
“I’ll probably wait until next summer. I’ve just got to take all of my visits and see from there,” he said.
