IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football coaches have been noticeably more aggressive in their recent recruiting strategy.
Iowa has been the first school to offer scholarships to several recruits in the 2017 class.
That includes running back Jordan Rowell, who is from Elmhurst, Ill. Iowa’s early attention has made an impression.
“I would say I like them more (than others) just because they’ve offered,” said Rowell, who also has drawn interest from Missouri, Nebraska, Purdue and Wisconsin.
Iowa also was the first school to offer a scholarship to St. Louis running back Andrew Clair and to Texas dual-threat quarterback Kamron Fields.
Rowell is yet another recruit being targeted by the Iowa coaches who can play multiple positions. Iowa signed 24 players in its 2016 class, with many of them capable of playing multiple positions.
“They feel that I’ll be a big impact on offense, special teams, or even defense,” Rowell said. "I would assume they would put me at safety."
Rowell said he plans to visit Iowa on March 6. He is eager to get a closer look at Iowa’s new facilities.
"The weight room is definitely my biggest attractionb," Rowell said.
