IOWA CITY, Iowa – For Cincinnati defensive back Keontae Jones, Wednesday was a productive day in recruiting thanks to the Big Ten Conference.
The three-star recruit was offered a scholarship by three Big Ten schools on Wednesday, including the Iowa Hawkeyes. Indiana and Rutgers also offered Jones a scholarship on Wednesday.
He is intrigued by the Iowa offer, with the Hawkeyes coming off a 2015 season in which they won the Big Ten West Division, climbed to as high as fourth in the playoff rankings and played in the Rose Bowl.
“It’s a really great feeling,” said the 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jones, who also reportedly has scholarship offers from Cincinnati and West Virginia. “They’re a big school who was in the top four last year and it’s good to know I can be a part of that.”
Jones already is familiar with the recruiting process after watching his older brother, Deshaunte Jones, go through it this past year. Deshaunte Jones, a 5-10, 170-pound athlete, signed a letter of intent with Iowa State in February.
Keontae Jones said his brother’s decision to be a Cyclone won’t factor into his recruitment.
“Not at all,” Keontae said. “I want to go somewhere that I like and that feels like home.”
