IOWA CITY, Iowa – Good things often come to those who wait.
At least, that’s what Spirit Lake offensive lineman Zach Dykstra is hoping.
Dykstra, 6-foot-6, 290 pounds, hasn’t received a scholarship offer from Iowa, but he hopes that will change on Sunday when he attends Iowa’s junior-day event in Iowa City.
Iowa is currently his only scheduled visit.
Dykstra currently has offers from Iowa State, South Dakota State and Colorado. He has also received interest from Iowa, Nebraska and Northern Iowa.
Ranked by Rivals.com as a three-star recruit, Dykstra thinks highly of the Cyclones, but his recruitment is wide open at this stage.
“With the offers I have right now my favorite would be Iowa State because they have been showing me the most interest so far,” Dykstra said.
Dykstra does not have much of a relationship with the Iowa coaches at this stage. He wants that to change on Sunday as he and some of the top juniors in the state take a closer look at the Iowa program.
Iowa has a reputation for developing offensive lineman under veteran head coach Kirk Ferentz. That appeals to Dykstra.
Ferentz’s son, Brian Ferentz, coaches the Iowa offensive line.
“Their interest level in me is a big factor,” Dykstra said of the Iowa coaches. “I want to go somewhere that wants me there. How good the offensive line coach is at developing players is also big to me.”
Dykstra said he doesn’t have a timetable for making a decision.
“It kind of depends what happens,” Dykstra said. “I want to be comfortable where I go and want to go somewhere I’m going to love for four or five years.”
Dykstra, who made first-team all-state team as a junior, said his aggression and his distaste for losing are the main attributes he brings to a team.
