Texas 4-star running back still favors Iowa after unofficial visit
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The tour of unofficial visits for Texas four-star running back Eno Benjamin is over for now and the Iowa Hawkeyes still sit atop his growing list of options.
There has been a lot of chatter on social media between Iowa fans and Michigan fans about which school would reign supreme on Benjamin’s list after he recently visited the Michigan campus.
But Benjamin still favors the Hawkeyes after taking his unofficial visit on Thursday and Friday.
“It was all just a matter of putting a visual to everything and putting it into perspective,” Benjamin said Friday afternoon.
In addition to seeing the Iowa football facilities, Benjamin also spent time with some current Iowa players and coaches. He tweeted several photos during his visit, including one in which he is standing between Iowa quarterback C.J. Beathard and fellow Texas native Emmanuel Ogwo, who plays receiver for the Hawkeyes.
“I spoke with all the coaches,” Benjamin said. “I also spoke with Desmond King, James and LeShun Daniels, Emmanuel Ogwo and a few others.”
The 5-foot-10, 204-pound Benjamin is listed by Rivals as the 14th best running back in the 2017 senior class. He is also ranked 12th nationally by Scout at his position and 15th by 247Sports.
As a junior at Wylie East High School, Benjamin rushed for 2,652 yards and accumulated 3,035 all-purpose yards and 45 touchdowns.
He reportedly has over 20 scholarship offers at this stage.
Benjamin described his visit to Iowa as being thorough and informative. He saw the football program up close and also learned more about the academic side of being a student-athlete at Iowa.
“I pretty much did everything,” Benjamin said. “I was everywhere from academics, to football, to even just around campus.”
Like so many other recruits who have visited the Iowa program, Benjamin raved about the facilities, especially the new weight room.
“Being able to watch them work out and being in a room with a lot of Texas boys, particularly guys from the area I’m from and just talking to them was good," Benjamin said.
Benjamin said he wants to visit more schools before making a decision. But for now, he wants to take a break after being on the road for over a week. He also visited Northwestern the day before coming to Iowa City.
Benjamin said he doesn’t have a timetable for picking a school.
