Iowa football recruiting beginning to heat up again
IOWA CITY, Iowa – As the temperature gets warmer outside, things also are heating up with regard to Iowa football recruiting.
Four-star running back Eno Benjamin, a native of Wylie, Tx., recently received a pair of Pac-12 offers from California and Utah.
Benjamin has said for several months that Iowa is his favorite school over at least 25 other scholarship offers.
Benjamin earned MVP honors for the running backs who attended the most recent Rivals Camp in Dallas. Benjamin told AllHawkeyes.com he plans on visiting some schools in the south before making a return visit to the Midwest.
Kallenberger to visit: In other recruiting news, Bettendorf offensive lineman Mark Kallenberger will visit Iowa on Thursday and has scheduled a visit to Iowa State for April 16.
Kallenberger currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska, and from at least four other schools.
Kallenberger was scheduled to join the dozens of other recruits who attended Iowa’s junior day earlier in the month, but he was sick and missed the event.
Rocky’s Road Three-star West Des Moines Valley quarterback Rocky Lombardi recently received his second Big Ten scholarship offer and his eighth overall.
Michigan State extended an offer to Lombardi last week, while Iowa offered him during the most recent junior-day activities in early March. Lombardi also has scholarship offers from Northern Illinois and Virginia.
Dykstra adds big offer: The word apparently is getting out about Spirit Lake offensive lineman Zach Dykstra.
He recently received a scholarship offer from Miami (Fla.) during a recent visit there. Dykstra already has offers from Iowa, Iowa State and several other schools.
Dykstra said Iowa, Iowa State and Miami (Fla.) are his top three schools in no particular order. He also has offers from Colorado State, Southern Mississippi and South Dakota State.
Visit watch: Two members of the 2017 senior class have confirmed their plans to attend Iowa’s spring game on April 23 at Kinnick Stadium
Receiver Maurice Bell, who is from Murrieta, Ca., and safety Damani Neal, who is from Potomoc, Md., both said they plan to attend Iowa’s spring game.
Bell’s offensive coordinator, Pete Duffy, is familiar with Iowa running backs coach Chris White. They both are originally from Massachusetts and have known each other for years.
Bell and Neal both are ranked as three-star prospects.
