Brandon Hutton will transfer to Indian Hills
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Brandon Hutton will stay in the state of Iowa to attend his next college.
The former Iowa basketball player has signed with Indian Hills Junior College, according to JucoRecruiting.com. Indian Hills has a campus in both Ottumwa and Centerville.
Hutton, who is from Chicago, decided to transfer after being redshirted as a true freshman this past season. The 6-foot-5 small forward is one of two freshmen who will transfer from Iowa after the spring semester ends later this month.
Andrew Fleming, a 6-5 shooting guard, announced recently on Twitter that he will transfer to Tennessee-Chattanooga, which is located near his hometown of Nashville, Tenn. Fleming played sparingly for Iowa this past season and said he was looking to transfer to a school where he would have a more prominent role.
The loss of Fleming and Hutton made two scholarships available for the 2016 recruiting class, which currently consists of four players.
Iowa coach Fran McCaffery already has promised one of the scholarships to sophomore-to-be forward Nicholas Baer, while the other scholarship still is available.
Chicago senior point guard Charlie Moore could have filled the final scholarship. But he recently trimmed his list to eight schools, with Iowa not making the cut.
New York City guard Christian Vital also reportedly had a scholarship offer from Iowa, but he made a verbal commitment to Connecticut last week.
NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from commenting on a specific recruit before the recruit has signed a national letter of intent.
