Ohio DB Josiah Scott eyeing end-of-July decision
IOWA CITY, Iowa – June and July have proven to be fruitful months for the Iowa football program in recruiting.
Iowa has added six verbal commitments to its 2017 recruiting class in barely a month-and-a-half.
Another addition could be just around the corner.
Three-star defensive back Josiah Scott said Tuesday that he is looking to announce his choice for college by the end of the month.
"I’m thinking July because I want to be able to focus on my (high school) team in August," Scott said.
Scott, a native of Fairfield, Ohio, had previously released his list of top three schools in June, which included Iowa, West Virginia and Pittsburgh.
He has since received a scholarship offer from Michigan State and has added the Spartans to his list. However, Scott declined to say which school or schools that he favors.
"The top three are still there with the addition of Michigan State to make it a top four," Scott said. "I don’t want to release what my leader is right now, but I do have two schools that are higher on my list than the others right now."
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound Scott hasn’t met any of the recruits in Iowa’s 2017 recruiting class, but has corresponded with them frequently.
This includes Texas four-star running back Eno Benjamin, who has taken on the role of ambassador for Iowa’s 2017 recruiting class. Scott also has spoken with quarterback recruit Peyton Mansell and defensive end recruit Coy Kirkpatrick about attending Iowa.
"Eno has reached out to me a couple of times," Scott said. "He tells me each time ‘Why wait? Join the family.’
"Peyton (Mansell) and Coy (Kirkpatrick) have also reached out to me. They’ve been saying the same thing. Peyton and I talk about every week just to catch up."
