Indiana WR has Iowa near the top of his list
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team has found itself at or near the top of many lists for 2017 recruits.
The latest example is three-star receiver Mac Hippenhammer.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., native is set to visit Iowa soon and has the Hawkeyes among his top five schools.
"Iowa is one of my top schools," Hippenhammer said. "I’m also favoring Penn State, Michigan State, Indiana and Wake Forest."
The 6-foot, 170-pound Hippenhammer said Wednesday that he mostly is looking forward to touring the University of Iowa campus and getting to know the Iowa players.
He is yet another 2017 recruit who has been contacted by Iowa four-star running back commit Eno Benjamin. Hippenhammer said Benjamin has raved about the new football facilities and about the coaching stability at Iowa, where Kirk Ferentz is the Dean of Big Ten coaches, entering his 18th season.
"Eno told me ‘The coaches are always going to shoot you straight," Hippenhammer said. "And you’ve seen the facilities. It’s only going to get better. Come join us.’
"Iowa’s facilities are top notch. The coaches are always going to keep it real. They have a stable coaching staff that you don’t have to worry about them getting fired or leaving you during your time there. And everything there has a nice vibe to it.’"
Hippenhammer has formed a relationship with Iowa recruiting coordinator Kelvin Bell and with receivers coach Bobby Kennedy, both of whom like his versatility.
"They want to move me around the field and let me do my thing," Hippenhammer said.
Hippenhammer doesn’t have a timetable for when he’d like to make his college choice, but he plans on visiting Michigan State soon.
