Friday’s podcast features former Hawk Melsahn Basabe
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa basketball player Melsahn Basabe is our guest on this podcast.
He talks for 30 minutes about being a Hawkeye, about being a father and about playing professionally overseas. He talks about his friendship with former Iowa guard Devyn Marble and about his admiration and respect for Devyn’s father, the late Roy Marble Sr.
Basabe grew up in New York City and signed with Iowa shortly after Fran McCaffery was named head coach in March 2010. Basabe has the distinction of being McCaffery’s first recruit at Iowa. Basabe praises McCaffery during the interview for being sincere and for caring about his players.
Basabe played a significant role in helping to rebuild the Iowa program as a 6-foot-7 forward. He made the Big Ten All-Freshmen team in 2011. He now lives in Iowa City during the off-season and will hold an individual skills camp next week at the Scanlon Gym at Mercer Park. Basabe gives details about his camp in the interview.
