Offensive lineman Mason Neisen believes Iowa offer is coming
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Like so many kids who grow up in Iowa, offensive lineman Mason Neisen has dreamed about being an Iowa football player.
His dream now could turn real.
Neisen, a high school senior-to-be from Denver, Iowa, hasn’t received a scholarship offer from Iowa at this point, but he seems confident that one is coming.
"(The Iowa coaches) said it’s coming and to trust them," Neisen said. "(They said to) just be patient and let them do their job.
"I’ve been a Hawkeye fan forever. It’s a dream of mine to play there."
Should he receive an offer from Iowa, the 6-foot-5, 325-pound Neisen said he would be tempted to commit on the spot, but would first seek the opinions of the people close to him.
"I’d be tempted for sure," Neisen said. "I’d make sure to talk with my family and friends first, though."
Neisen spoke highly about his most recent visit to Iowa City in which he had the opportunity to meet numerous recruits from the 2017 and 2018 classes. He also met some current Iowa players and got a better idea of what the University of Iowa offers academically.
"It was a blast," Neisen said. "We got tours of everything football related, had an academic presentation and got to meet with professors and talk about school. I got to meet a lot of players that are on the team. They were hanging out with us the whole time, which was really cool.
"I met most of the incoming freshman and than also some players who have been there awhile. I hung out with (sophomore offensive lineman) Dalton Ferguson a lot. He was a really genuine guy and was really cool to get to know."
Although, he is listed as an offensive guard, Neisen said he would be willing to play any position on the offensive line in order to help the team.
Neisen also plays with a mean streak on the field, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Iowa coaches.
"I’ll play wherever the college I go to wants me to play," Neisen said. "I just want to play ball. I’d do anything to better the team. You have to have a team over self mentality if you want to be successful.
"They love the physicality and anger I play with. They said they can tell I have a real passion for the game."
Neisen said he doesn’t plan on taking any more visits in the near future because he wants to focus on his senior season.
He also has no timetable for making a decision.
