Lovett, Nelson making official visits to Iowa this weekend
By Tyler Devine
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team already has defeated Rutgers once this year on the field. It is now attempting to do the same on the recruiting trail.
Iowa offered a scholarship last week to three-star running back and Rutgers commit Jon Lovett and will host him for an official visit this weekend for its prime time matchup against Michigan. Fellow three-star prospect Scott Nelson, a native of Detroit, Mich., also will take an official visit to Iowa this weekend. Nelson released his top five schools late in the summer which included Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Lovetts is expected to be among about 60 recruits who visit Iowa City this weekend. The list also includes Iowa City West standout receiver Oliver Martin, who will be on an unofficial visit. Martin has both Iowa and Michigan among his top schools.
There also will be a familiar name on campus this weekend. Kade Warner, son of former NFL star quarterback Kurt Warner, will take an unofficial to Iowa. The younger Warner is a receiver from Scottsdale, Ariz. He reportedly is being recruited as a preferred walk-on.
