IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz is nothing if not loyal, and he expects the same from his players and coaches.
Two-star 2018 offensive lineman Carlos Vettorello, a native of Detroit, Mich., appreciaties loyalty and has Iowa among his top schools after receiving a scholarship offer on Tuesday. Vettorello also appreciates Iowa's success with developing players.
The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Vettorello got a first-hand look at Iowa's resources for development during a recent visit to campus. He also attended Iowa's 40-10 troucning of Nebraska on Black Friday.
"It means a lot to get an offer from Iowa," Vettorello said. "They have such a great program there and coach Ferentz being there a long time is a plus knowing he is loyal to the program. Their facilities also stand out. They really have the resources to make you a better player. That probably stood out the most. Especially the weight room where I will be spending a lot of time as a lineman. Their fans also stood out a lot.
"Iowa is definitely one of the frontrunners. The staff there has shown me a lot of love."
Ferentz likes to recruit versatile linemen who can play multiple positions on the offensive line. The Iowa coaches have told Vettorello that they could see him playing any of the five positions on the offensive line.
"They say I fit in the program well and they will probably move me around the offensive line wherever I'm needed," Vettorello said.
Vettorello also reports scholarship offers from Indiana, Northwestern, Central Florida, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Arkansas.
