AH TV: Iowa players look back at the disaster at Penn State
IOWA CITY, Iowa – There were several low points to the Iowa football team's 2016 season, which ended with an embarrassing 30-3 loss to Florida in the Outback Bowl.
Nov. 5, 2016 might have been the lowest point, thought.
That's the day, or more specifically, the night, Penn State hammered Iowa 41-14 in State College, Pa., in a game that was even worse than the lopsided scored indicated.
If that wasn't enough, Penn State star running back Saquon Barkley basically accused the Iowa players of quitting after the game.
The Hawkeyes rallied the next week to upset Michigan 14-13 at Kinnick Stadium, and now they have a chance for revenge and redemption agianst Penn State on Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.
The game starts at 6:30 p.m.and will be televised on ABC.
Members of the Iowa team met with the media on Tuesday to discuss the challenge of facing Penn State, which is 3-0 and ranked fourth nationally. The players also addressed the humiliating defeat at Penn State last season and what Barkley said after the game.
Emotions would be sky-high under any circumstances with Penn State coming to town. But this game is different, partly because of what happened at Penn State last season.
To be called a quitter is the ultimate slap in the face for a competitor. The Ioa playes now have a chance to earn Penn State's respect on a grand stage.
