AH podcast: Don Patterson looks back at the blown opportunity in East Lansing
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team’s 17-10 loss at Michigan State this past Saturday has Hawkeye Nation talking, and that includes former Iowa assistant coach Don Patterson.
The former Iowa offensive coordinator under Hayden Fry made his usual Monday appearance on the AllHawkeyes podcast and he spoke in great detail for approximately 30 minutes about what is ailing the Iowa offense, about how the defense’ s poor start impacted the game and about the ongoing struggle with field position and punting.
Patterson also questioned Nate Stanley’s decisions when calling an audible at the line of scrimmage because the results have left much to be desired as Stanley almost always checks into a run that gains little to no yards.
But Patterson was careful not to be too critical of Stanley, or of the struggling offensive line, because as a former Iowa assistant coach, he is loyal to the program and he respects and admires Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.
Patterson predicted that Iowa would rebound in resounding fashion against lowly Illinois this coming Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. He thinks the players will be eager to get back on the field after blowing a huge opportunity at Michigan State.
He also thinks the coaches will make the necessary adjustments to correct the mistakes that plagued Iowa on Saturday.
Patterson’s insight is always compelling and filled with great details and observations that only an experienced football mind would know.
So give this podcast a listen because we think you’ll really enjoy Patterson's knowledge and passion for Hawkeye football.
