IOWA CITY, Iowa – Brian Ferentz met with the media on Wednesday to discuss his first six games as the Iowa offensive coordinator.

Kirk Ferentz's oldest of five children had plenty to say as usual, including admitting that he didn't have a good enough plan for the Michigan State game, especially with regard to the running game.

Brian Ferentz also didn't sound optimistic about injured running back James Butler being ready for the Northwestern game on Oct. 21 in Evanston, Ill. Butler has missed the last three games because of an elbow injury.

Iowa's 3.7 yards-per-carry average as a team also has to improve, says Brian Ferentz. And that's one of the things being emphasized during the bye week this week.

Brian Ferentz had high praise for starting quarterback Nate Stanley, who has 15 touchdown passes and just two interceptions in six games, and for redshirt freshman tight end T.J. Hockenson.

"Right now, I think we have a pretty efficient young quarterback who has exceeded our expectations and really has done a fairly good job for us," Brian Ferentz said of Stanley.
