Brian Ferentz apologizes for his behavior in the Kinnick Stadium press box last Saturday
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz released a statement on Wednesday in which he apologized for his behavior in the Kinnick Stadium press box last Saturday.
"I want to apologize to the members of the media and the replay officials for my unprofessional behavior during halftime of the Minnesota game Saturday night," Brian Ferentz said, "My language was inappropriate and behavior was wrong. There is no excuse for my actions. I regret the negative attention this has brought to the program and the UI Athletic Department. I have sent a letter of apology to the replay official and have assured our head coach and athletic director I will hold myself to a higher level of professionalism."
Brian Ferentz unleased a profanity-laced tirade in the Kinnick Stadium press box at halftime of Iowa's 17-10 victory over Minnesota last Saturday. His anger was directed at the replay official who reversed a call in which James Butler was ruled to have fumbled in the second quarter after initially being called down by contact.
Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, who is Brian Ferentz's father, said after the game on Saturday that the behavior was unacceptable and that it couldn't happen again. Kirk Ferentz said it again on Tuesday during his weekly press conference.
Brian Ferentz met with Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta on Tuesday to discuss the matter. Barta also released a statement on Wednesday.
"My conversations have been productive and positive," Barta said. "We hold our administrative staff, coaches and student-athletes to a very high standard of professionalism. I am confident Brian has a complete understanding that his behavior Saturday was unacceptable as a role model for our team and coaching staff, and as a representative of the University of Iowa, and that it cannot be repeated. We have completed our process and consider the incident resolved..
