IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa City is a long way away from Largo, Fla., but that doesn't seem to matter to three-star receiver Calvin Lockett.

The 2018 recruit enjoyed his official visit to Iowa City over the weekend so much that he now has Iowa at the top of his list.

"They are at the top of my list," Lockett said. "Distance isn't too big of a factor, I think I'll be good."

Lockett said the relationships he began to develop while on campus went a long way in putting Iowa at the top of his list.

"The people made me feel welcomed and the facilities are great," Lockett said.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Lockett had a chance to sit down with head coach Kirk Ferentz and discuss the possibility of Lockett playing right away as a freshman at a position of need for Iowa.

"We talked about the program and he let me know they need help in the receiver group and the opportunity for me to play is open, I just have to work for it," Lockett said.

Lockett also had a very special companion on the visit. His grandmother also made the trip with him.

Lockett said that the visit helped to ease his grandmother's anxiety about him traveling too far from home.

"She loved it," Lockett said. "She actually didn't want me to go too far but now she's fine with it."

Lockett is also favoring South Florida and Florida International. He has previously told Allhawkeyes that he was planning to wait until February to make a decision.

Iowa currently has 14 players committed to its 2018 recruiting class.
