AH TV: Fran McCaffery, Iowa players talk about Saturday’s 90-64 victory over Drake
DES MOINES, Iowa – Too much size.
Too much depth.
And way too much Nicholas Baer and Tyler Cook.
The Iowa men's basketball team used all of those advantages to crush Drake 90-64 on Saturday in the first game of the Big Four Classic at Wells Fargo Arena.
Baer stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high 14 rebounds, 11 points, five assists and a career-high five steals as Iowa evened its record at 6-6 overall. The 6-foot-7 Bettendorf native grabbed nine rebounds in the first half, which ended with Iowa leading 40-33.
Baer is the first Iowa player since Reggie Evans in 2001 to have at least 13 rebounds, four assists and four steals in a game.

The undersized Bulldogs had no answer for the 6-9 Cook as he scored a game-high 23 points, with more than half of his points coming on six dunks.
Cook and Baer were among four Iowa players who scored in double figures on Saturday. Sophomore point guard Jordan Bohannon scored 15 points, while 6-11 freshman center Luka Garza contributed 13 points off the bench.
Iowa shot a blistering 61 percent in the second half and outscored Drake 52-26 in the paint.

The Hawkeyes also held Drake to just 3-of-14 shooting from 3-point range in the second half. The Bulldogs, with only one starter taller than 6-2, rely heavily on the 3-point shot and are tough to beat when their shots are falling as Minnesota found out this past Monday.
Drake made 12 treys against Minnesota and nearly pulled off an upset, losing 68-67 in Minneapolis.
Iowa has won back-to-back games after having lost four games in a row and six of seven games. The Hawkeyes also have won 33 of their last 36 games against Drake, including the last six in a row.
Iowa was at full strength on Saturday for one of the few times this season as sophomore forward Cordell Pemsl played 12 minutes off the bench and finished with six points and eight rebounds. His status was questionable heading into the game due to a deep laceration on his right shin that required three layers of stitches to seal it.
Pemsl was injured against Iowa State on Dec. 7 when he crashed into a folding chair near courtside at Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
Freshman guard Connor McCaffery also played in Saturday's game after making his season debut in last Sunday's 91-60 victory over Southern University. The son of Iowa coach Fran McCaffery missed the first 10 regular-season games for health reasons. He injured his ankle in practice and was also diagnosed with mononucleosis shortly after the injury had occurred.
Iowa will face Southern Utah in its next game at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
