Five former Iowa players invited to the 2018 NFL Combine
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football program will have a strong presence at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine.
Three seniors and two juniors from Iowa’s 2017 squad that finished 8-5 overall have been invited to the annual event later this month in Indianapolis. The juniors are center James Daniels and cornerback Josh Jackson, while the seniors are linebacker Josey Jewell, offensive lineman Sean Welsh and running back Akrum Wadley.
Daniels and Jackson both declared for the draft shortly after Iowa defeated Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Jackson is coming off a junior season in which he was a unanimous first-team All-America selection and a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation’s top collegiate defensive back.
Jewell was also a unanimous first-team All-America selection this past season, and the first three-time captain in 19 seasons under head coach Kirk Ferentz.
Wadley is one of just two players to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons under Ferentz, along with Fred Russell.
Welsh was a three-year starter for the Hawkeyes, playing both guard and tackle.
The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine will be held Feb. 27 through March 5 in Indianapolis. More than 300 prospects are invited to the combine each year.
