Three-star quarterback Sam Johnson high on Iowa after visit

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Walled Lake, Mich. native Sam Johnson got his first look at the Iowa football program during a visit on Saturday.
The 2019 quarterback came away from Iowa with a scholarship offer and the feeling that Iowa will be among his top three schools once he narrows down the other two.
“It felt really good,” Johnson said. “Iowa was high on my list because they fit my style of play. They’ll definitely be a top three school.
“To be honest I’m undecided but after what I saw today how could I not put them in the top three if I had one.”
The 6-foot-4, 194-pound Johnson enjoyed his visit so much that he had trouble deciding what he enjoyed most.
“I’ll just say the experience up there,” Johnson said. “That was my first time and also spending time with the coaches. They have a pretty cool staff up there. It was overall a fun and great experience for me.”
Johnson also is a big fan of the way Iowa runs its offense and can see himself fitting into its schemes.
“The pro-style offense (suits me well),” Johnson said. “They’ll go under center then they can mix it up and go shotgun. Then you’ll get a lot of play action in there keep the defense on its heels wondering if it’s a run or a pass.”
Johnson’s high school teammate, 2020 receiver Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen, made the trip to Iowa City with Johnson and also received an offer.
“It was pretty cool not just that I got offered but him too because we rode up there together and he’s just a hardworking kid with a lot of talent,” Johnson said. “I was pretty excited for him.”
Johnson also has offers from Akron, Ball State, Boston College, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Ohio, Syracuse, Temple, Toledo and Western Michigan.
