IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team now has its first commitment in its 2020 recruiting class and it came from the most important position on the field.

Three-star quarterback Deuce Hogan announced his commitment to Iowa on Friday via Twitter.

"It's such an incredible blessing," Hogan said. "The people and the offense are both as good as it gets and fit who I am."

Hogan, a native of Grapevine, Texas, chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Baylor, Boston College, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Louisiana Tech, Oklahoma State, Syracuse and Tulsa.

Iowa currently has one quarterback on its roster from Texas in redshirt freshman Peyton Mansell, who is a native of Belton, Texas.

Hogan is also believed to be the earliest quarterback commit in the Kirk Ferentz era. The earliest before him was current starting quarterback Nate Stanley, who committed to Iowa in November of his junior year of high school.

Despite still having two years of high school football left, Hogan couldn't wait to jump on the opportunity provided by Iowa.

"It was home as soon as I stepped on campus," Hogan said. "Secondly, a lot of bigger programs have tons of offers out and I was their only one, so that was big."

The 6-foot-4, 191-pound Hogan is the 17th-ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2020 class according to Rivals.com.
