IOWA CITY, Iowa – Florida tight end Jonathan Odom has yet to see the Iowa football program in person, but that does not take away from the 2020 prospect's excitement from receiving a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes on Tuesday.
The offer is Odom's third from a Big Ten school and his sixth overall. Besides Iowa, he has offers from Appalachian State, Duke, Indiana, Nebraska and Vanderbilt.
"It feels great," Odom said. "I thank God and I’m truly blessed to have an opportunity to play at a school like Iowa. I can’t wait to go up and feel the atmosphere and see where I could possibly be spending my college career."
The 6-foot-6, 230-pound Odom said that Iowa's tradition of developing profession-caliber tight ends will play a big factor when he eventually makes his college choice.
"It’s something I will definitely be taking into consideration when I make my decision," Odom said. "The Iowa tight end tradition is something special."
Odom, a native of Tampa, Fla., has heard plenty about the Iowa program from his high school teammate Dane Belton.
Belton, a 2019 defensive back, has been verbally committed to Iowa since June and Odom said that he and Belton are very close to one another.
"We have been talking about Iowa since before I got the offer," Odom said. "He has definitely given me an idea on what Iowa has to offer and I love what I hear. Me and Dane have been great friends since I got to Jesuit. I look at him as a brother. It’s cool to have an opportunity to play with one of my brothers in college"
Odom also said that he currently does not have any favorites among the schools that have extened offers to him.
"I’m excited about every school that has offered me up to this point," Odom said. "It’s a dream of mine since I was a kid to have some of the offers and opportunities to play at some of these schools that have offered me. I’m truly thankful."
