IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team received its first two commitments from offensive linemen in its 2020 class on Friday.
Cedar Rapids native Josh Volk and Byron, Ill. Tyler Elsbury both announced their commitments to Iowa via Twitter.
The 6-foot-5, 298-pound Elsbury said that he's happy to be done with the recruiting process and that it was just a coincidence that he and Volk committed within about 30 minutes of one another.
"It feels great," Elsbury said. "It's a big relief. Now I can just focus on what I can do to better myself. I have a great respect for Josh and throught this process I have gotten to watch how he is with other people and I just can't wait to get to know him even better."
Elsbury has a special connection to the Iowa program that helped lead him to commit to the Hawkeyes.
Former Hawkeye safety Sean Considine is a volunteer coach at Elsbury's high school and has helped to guide Elsbury in the right direction since a young age.
"I have gotten to know Sean ever since I was in third grade playing flag football," Elsbury said. "Even way back then he saw great potential in me and pushed my to better myself. Sean is the type of and person to be honest with you and if you don't have someone like that in life to bring you back down to Earth, you're missing out. I really appreciate all that he has done for e throughout this process and I don't think I would be where I am without him."
The 6-foot-4, 306-pound Volk is the fourth Iowa native to join Iowa's 2020 class while Elsbury is the second Illinois native in the class.
Volk joins Cedar Rapids Xavier teammate Ethan Hurkett in the class, who is a linebacker and committed to Iowa in February.
Volk also had scholarship offers from Iowa State and Nebraska.
Elsbury had scholarship offers from Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Northern Illinois.
