IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team’s recent success at the tight end position is getting the attention of recruits.

Three-star 2020 tight end Luke Lachey is the latest to take notice after recently receiving a scholarship offer from Iowa.

“It is very exciting,” Lachey said. “Just seeing the success there recently with the tight ends made it even better.”

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound Lachey has accumulated nearly 20 offers to this point and said that Iowa stands among the favorites right now.

Lachey also said he is looking into taking an unofficial visit to Iowa.

“I’d say they are one of my top schools,” Lachey said. “We don’t have anything set but I am trying to work something out now so I can get there.”

Lachey, a native of Grandview Heights, Ohio, also has taken note of a new tradition that takes place in Kinnick Stadium on Saturdays.

“Their long-lasting success and the Kinnick Wave when they wave to the kids in the children’s hospital after the first quarter is really awesome,” Lachey said.

Lachey also has offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Minnesota, Princeton, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Toledo, Tulane, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Fitzpatrick wants to learn about Iowa: Three-star 2020 receiver Christian Fitzpatrick was part of a slew of scholarship offers handed out by Iowa recently.

The Waterford, Mich. native is honored by the offer and hopes that he can impress the Iowa coaching staff in person someday.

“It feels great to know that a big time program sees me as a big time player,” Fitzpatrick said. “I have no doubt that if they saw me in person they would love what I’ve got.”

The 6-foot-4, 206-pound Fitzpatrick said that he doesn’t know much about Iowa but he would like to visit in the near future.

“I haven’t really had the chance to get to know the program and staff yet,” Fitzpatrick said. “I do know that they are one of the best teams in the Big Ten every year and are right there in the hunt for the Big Ten championship.”

Fitzpatrick also has offers from Ball State, Boston College, Central Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Louisville, Oregon, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo and West Virginia.

Wells enters the fold: As uncommon as it has been in the past for Iowa to extend offers to high school freshman, it appears to be happening more and more as of late.

St. Louis, Mo. running back Ali Wells is the latest to receive an early offer from Iowa.

“It just feels good to know colleges are interested freshman year,” Wells said.

The 5-foot-10, 162-pound Wells is believed to be the seventh recruit in the 2022 class to receive an offer from Iowa, including the fourth from the St. Louis area.

The other St. Louis-area natives to have received offers from Iowa are running back Arlen Harris, defensive back Toriano Pride and athlete Kevin Coleman.

Iowa also offered 2021 Tiffin native T.J. Bollers and 2021 Bettendorf native Griffin Liddle as freshman last year.

Wells said that he is in the process of scheduling a visit to Iowa.

He also has offers from East Carolina, Florida State, Louisville and Purdue.
