Three-star running back Leshon Williams discusses commitment to Iowa
By Tyler Devine
IOWA CITY, Iowa – It took little time for three-star running back Leshon Williams to decide he wanted to be a Hawkeye.
Less than 24 hours after receiving a scholarship offer from Iowa, Williams announced his commitment via Twitter on Thursday.
Williams is the third Illinois native and tenth player overall to commit to Iowa’s 2020 recruiting class
“It feels amazing,” Williams said. “It’s almost like a dream.”
Williams, a native of Oak Lawn, Ill., said that his longtime relationship with the Iowa coaching staff made the decision easy.
Williams also was high school teammates with incoming freshman defensive back Sebastian Castro.
“I had been talking to Iowa for a while and it’s always been my dream to play in the Big Ten, so why not do that with one of my teammates,” Williams said.
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Williams said Iowa’s tradition also played a major role in his decision.
Williams joins West Des Moines native Gavin Williams as running backs in the class.
Williams also had scholarship offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Kansas State, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wyoming and Youngstown State.
