AH summer TV: Select Iowa football players meet with the media
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Quarterback Nate Stanley and All-Big Ten defensive end A.J. Epenesa were among the Iowa football players that met with the media on Tuesday for an early summer progress report.
Stanley is preparing for his third season as the starter and is on course to end his career as one of the most productive quarterbacks in program history. Stanley combined to throw 52 touchdown passes over the past two seasons, which is the most by an Iowa quarterback in back-to-back seasons.
Stanley addressed multiple topics on Tuesday, including his interest in fishing and the recent addition of three new receivers, including Michigan transfer and Iowa City native Oliver Martin.
As for Epenesa, he is coming off a season in which he led the Big Ten with 10.5 sacks despite not being a starter. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Epenesa is expected to play a lot more snaps this coming season now that Parker Hesse and Anthony Nelson have moved on to the NFL, and that was among the topics that Epenesa addressed with the media.
He also talked about being touted as a potential first-round draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and about what makes being an Iowa football player truly special.
Epenesa is the son of former Iowa defensive lineman Eppy Epenesa.
Offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs, running Mekhi Sargent, linebacker Kristian Welch and defensive lineman Brady Reiff also attended Tuesday's press conference.
