AH podcast: Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops is our featured guest

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops was kind enough to take some time from his busy schedule to be our guest on a special Thursday edition of the Allhawkeyes/KCJJ radio show and podcast.

We switched the show from its usual Wednesday morning spot to Thursday because that was the only time Stoops was available this week. And that makes sense with Kentucky preparing to face SEC traditional power Florida on Saturday at home.

The interview with Stoops lasts for about 20 minutes and starts about one hour into the 90-minute podcast.

He talks about the challenge of rebuilding a program in the SEC and about what it means to be a part of Hayden Fry's coaching tree at Iowa, which also includes Stoops' older brothers, Bob and Mike. Kentucky is coming off a 10-3 season and has won 12 of its last 15 games dating back to last season.

All three of the Stoops brothers played defensive back at Iowa under Hayden Fry, with Mark being the youngest. Mark played for the Hawkeyes from 1986-89 and was a graduate assistant at Iowa from 1989-91.

Mark Stoops also talks about coaching Ahmad Wagner, who plays receiver for Kentucky after having played basketball for three seasons at Iowa.

We appreciate Mark joining our show and think you will enjoy his insight.

As for the other 75 minutes of the show, some of it includes serious discussion about Saturday's game in Ames, but there is also plenty of drifting and obscure musical references, especially near the end of the show.

So you've been warned.
