Former Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi looks back at his celebrated career as a Hawkeye
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Ten years have passed since Ricky Stanzi helped lead the Iowa football team to an 11-2 record as the starting quarterback in 2009.
The 2009 team will be honored on Saturday when No. 17 Iowa faces No. 14 Penn State at Kinnick Stadium, with Stanzi serving as the honorary team captain.
Stanzi was driving to Iowa City from his home state of Ohio with his mother and father on Friday when we spoke with him for about 30 minutes.
He looked back at his career at Iowa, which lasted from 2007-10 and included three bowl wins, and ahead to Saturday's game against Penn State.
Stanzi called it an honor to be an honorary captain and he spoke highly about his time as a Hawkeye.
He said the drive over with his parents on Friday was similar to when his parents dropped him off as a freshman in 2007, although, a lot has happened in between.
This was a fun interview and we appreciate Ricky giving us some time to chat.
