Four-star big man Xavier Foster nearing November decision

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The most talked about basketball recruit from the state of Iowa in some time is nearing a decision on his college destination.
Four-star big man Xavier Foster, a native of Oskaloosa, plans to announce his decision on Nov. 11 between his top five list of schools that includes Iowa, Iowa State, Providence, Baylor and Virginia Tech.
National signing day for basketball recruits is Nov. 13.
According to Xavier’s father, Dajuan Foster, the decision may go down to the wire.
“You know what, I don’t think he knows,” Dajuan Foster said. “And if he does, he’s doing a really good job of keeping a secret. I’ve heard pros and cons of all the schools in the past couple weeks. I think maybe he thinks something, then he kind of second guesses himself. I don’t know that he’s certain.”
The 7-foot, 225-pound Xavier Foster took official visits to Iowa and Iowa State over the weekend, but it remains to be seen if he and his family will make the trek to the other schools for in-home visits before he announces his commitment due to their busy schedule.
“We’ve talked and kind of thrown it around,” Dajuan Foster said. “It’s been tough recently because we’re so busy as a family. My wife is coaching middle school volleyball. Now that we’ve slowed down a little bit, I think we’ll get visits set up.
“It’s not that those coaches hadn’t necessarily wanted to, we just weren’t able to accommodate when they were free, or us being free. It’s been a struggle, a bunch of moving parts.”
While some parents might push their child to make a decision, Dajuan Foster trusts that his son will make the decision that is best for him.
“It is (the biggest decision of his life),” Dajuan Foster said. “But the coolest thing about Xavier is that he’s been kind of care-free about everything up to this point, so I figure when he knows he’ll know, and he’ll make a decision.”
