IOWA CITY, Iowa – Southeast Polk defensive back Xavier Nwankpa has seen his recruitment heat up recently.
The 2022 prospect recently added a scholarship offer from Iowa to his list that also includes offers from Nebraska and Iowa State.
Being a recruit from the state of Iowa made the offer from the Hawkeyes special for Nwankpa.
“It felt great,” Nwankpa said. “It boosted my confidence even more. (It means) a lot since a lot of in-state guys are overlooked and me getting the opportunity is big.”
One thing that stands out to the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Nwankpa is the opportunity to play for Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker, who also coaches the defensive backs.
Parker has built a reputation for developing defensive backs and helping them to achieve their goal of playing in the NFL.
“It’s very intriguing,” Nwankpa said. “He’s one of the best and can help anyone grow.”
Nwankpa got a closer look at Iowa during a recent visit and said that he enjoyed the opportunity to get to know some of the people around the program.
“(I like) the people,” Nwankpa said. “I like the 2020 commits and the culture that (Iowa) has established.
Iowa currently has one player committed to its 2022 class in Gowrie, Iowa defensive lineman Aaron Graves.
