IOWA CITY, Iowa – From Deuce Hogan to Deontae Craig, the Iowa football team’s 2020 recruiting class will come to fruition on Wednesday.
All 22 players committed to the class are expected to sign their national letters of intent to all but close out a class that began in June of 2018.
The class has players from 12 states, including five players from Illinois, four from Iowa and two players each from Indiana, Florida and Texas.
“It’s very exciting that our class can proudly represent Illinois while playing at the University of Iowa,” defensive line commit Lukas Van Ness said. “The Iowa 2020 class is a great group of talented guys and I can’t wait to get to work.”
Iowa’s class is bookended by Hogan and Craig who also are the lone four-star prospects in the class.
Hogan, a native of Grapevine, Texas, kicked off the class over a year and a half ago in June.
June became in important month for Iowa during this recruiting cycle.
In a span of just two weeks in June, nine players verbally committed to the class, beginning with Stillwell, Kan., defensive lineman Mason Richman and ending with Mobile, Ala., defensive back Reggie Bracy.
Craig, a native of Culver, Ind., was the final player to commit to the class in August.
"This is an awesome group of guys and I think that we are going to make a very widely felt impact in the coming years," Hogan said.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Craig is one of seven defensive linemen in the class, which is easily the most of any position, followed by four defensive backs.
Illinois running back Leshon Williams said that he is looking forward to signing his letter of intent and the clean slate that it brings.
“It’s amazing to be able to sign early,” Williams said. “I’m really excited for the new beginnings. I’ll be very happy and relieved with the decision I made.”
