IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team does not often offer scholarships to high school freshmen, especially not quarterbacks.

In fact, Duncanville, Texas quarterback Chris Parson said became the first high school freshman quarterback to receive a scholarship offer from Iowa during a visit over the weekend.

“It’s truly a blessing,” Parson said. “It’s great to know that a school with such prestige like Iowa recognized my talents and didn’t hesitate. Can’t do much but give thanks to God. It’s a great feeling.”

The 6-foot, 185-pound Parson is just the third 2023 prospect to receive an offer from Iowa, according to Rivals.com.

The other two are Robbinsdale, Minn., tight end Jaxon Howard and Highland Home, Ala., defensive end Keldric Faulk.

While more offers are sure to come, Parson said that the bond he forms with the Iowa coaching staff is his number one priority.

Parson said he has already begun doing so with special teams coach LeVar Woods, offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz and quarterbacks coach Ken O’Keefe.

“The great academic programs, the stable and very solid coaching staff will always have Iowa as a top option,” Parson said. “Iowa will always be there as both Iowa and I have built a relationship and that’s the most important thing to me. I am confident that we will continue to build the relationship.

“Iowa’s coaching staff is very straightforward and honest and that means a lot to me, therefore the relationship we have won’t fade.”

Parson also has offers from Illinois State and Kansas.

He said he is going to visit Rice and Memphis this month.
