IOWA CITY, Iowa – Fran McCaffery was our guest on the Allhawkeyes/KCJJ radio show and podcast on Friday, and he spoke for nearly 30 minutes about the stunning news that has unfolded in the world of sports over the past few days.

Iowa's head men's basketball coach talked in great detail about the tense moments leading up to the Big Ten Conference's decision to cancel its postseason men's basketball Tournament on Thursday.

The NCAA Tournament also has been cancelled due to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus, and Iowa was considered a lock to the make the tournament.

McCaffery sympathized with his players, including his son Connor McCaffery, who plays both basketball and baseball for Iowa, and he praised his team for staying the course during a season that was rocked by injuries.

McCaffery had high praise for junior center Luka Garza, who was named the Big Ten Player of the Year, and the National Player of the Year by the Sporting News.
