Iowa Adds Nationally-Ranked Wrestler Drake Ayala to 2021 Recruiting Class
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa wrestling team added a nationally-ranked prospect to its 2021 recruiting class Wednesday when Fort Dodge native Drake Ayala announced his commitment via Twitter.
“It’s awesome,” Ayala said. “It’s a childhood dream come true.”
Ayala is considered the No. 2 prospect at 120 pounds nationally and is a two-time Iowa state champion.
Ayala said he was also receiving interest from Ohio State, North Carolina, Iowa State, Minnesota and Michigan, but decided recently that Iowa was the place for him.
“(I like) the culture, the coaches, the expectations they have and just really everything,” Ayala said.
Ayala also said that he expects to wrestle at either 125 or 133 pounds at Iowa.
He is the fourth known commitment in Iowa’s 2021 class, joining Ankeny native Caleb Rathjen, Colorado native Cam Lucero and Pennsylvania native Wyatt Henson.
