IOWA CITY, Iowa – The first scholarship offer is always special for a recruit, but the chance to play with your big brother makes it even more special.
That opportunity was presented to 2022 receiver Javon Tracy on Friday, who is the younger brother of sophomore receiver Tyrone Tracy.
“It’s surreal to get this offer because it’s my first offer,” Javon Tracy said. “(I’m) very humbled and excited. It makes it more important because knowing that I can possibly play with my brother for one year if he stays all of his years is very exciting. I’ve been there and know what it’s like. Iowa City is amazing.”
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Javon Tracy said he has also garnered interest from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
The Indianapolis, Ind., native said that Iowa being the first to offer him will play an important role in his ultimate decision.
“For them to be the first to take a chance on me his huge,” Javon Tracy said. “And it shows how they feel about me and I appreciate it a lot.”
Javon Tracy’s offer comes at a time when Iowa is entangled in allegations of racial inequality by numerous former players that led to the departure of strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle and is currently under independent review by a Kansas City law firm.
There is hope that Iowa can use this as a way to promote positive changes and as a way to perhaps spark a national movement.
Javon Tracy said that he has had conversations with his brother about the situation and believes that it could end up benefiting the Iowa football team.
“I’m glad it happened because those types of things is what makes a team more together and like a family,” Javon Tracy said. “It’s only going to make them stronger and better.”
Iowa currently has one player verbally committed to its 2022 recruiting class in four-star defensive lineman Aaron Graves, who is from Gowrie, Iowa.
