Hawk Fanatic Week 2 predictions; Iowa faces early must win
IOWA CITY, Iowa – There was a risk in making our weekly predictions on Wednesday, because with a global pandemic, a lot can change by Saturday.
One game already has been cancelled due to COVID-19 with the Wisconsin-Nebraska matchup wiped out after six Wisconsin players and six staff members, including head coach Paul Chryst, tested positive for COVID-19.
All seven Big Ten games were played last week and Pat Harty and Tyler Devine both picked the right outcome in six games. Harty was wrong in picking Iowa to defeat Purdue, while Devine mistakenly picked Penn State to defeat Indiana.
Pat Harty’s picks
Iowa 28, Northwestern 27: Keith Duncan kicks a 44-yard game-winning field goal as time expires and then runs to the Northwestern sideline to celebrate.
Michigan 42, Michigan State 10: Jim Harbaugh celebrates the win by sleeping in khaki pajamas.
Minnesota 34, Maryland 20: P.J. Fleck celebrates the win by body surfing in the locker room with his players standing six feet apart.
Purdue 31, Illinois 23: Purdue is lucky it wasn’t looking past Iowa to this epic border rivalry.
Indiana 33, Rutgers 29: I gave serious consideration to picking Rutgers, which is something I never recall doing before.
Ohio State 35, Penn State 24: I didn’t give any consideration to picking Penn State, which in this case, says more about the opponent than Penn State.
Last week: 6-1, overall: 6-1
Tyler Devine’s picks
Iowa 37, Northwestern 34: I think Iowa will bounce back, but only if it scores more points than Northwestern.
Minnesota 27, Maryland 10: P.J. Fleck suits up and shows his players how it’s really done.
Michigan 38, Michigan State 7: I’m not sure which we’ll see more of, Michigan State turning the ball over or Jim Harbaugh picking his nose.
Purdue 45, Illinois 28: Things went so well against Iowa that Jeff Brohm opts out and allows his brother, Brian Brohm, to handle the head coaching duties again.
Indiana 34, Rutgers 20: I feel like I ask myself if Rutgers is actually any good once per season.
Ohio State 42, Penn State 35: Penn State is fired up after a tough loss to Indiana last week, but I’m not sure anyone is beating the Buckeyes this year.
Last week: 6-1, overall: 6-1
