Caitlin Clark named MVP of U19 World Cup Tournament
DEBRECEN, Hungary — University of Iowa women’s basketball sophomore Caitlin Clark won her third gold medal as Team USA defeated Australia, 70-52, in the U19 World Cup Final on Sunday.
Clark, a native of West Des Moines, Iowa, was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Clark scored nine points, dished out eight assists, tallied eight rebounds, and recorded a block in the victory over Australia. The USA team captain registered 100 points (14.3 ppg), 39 assists (5.6 apg), 37 rebounds (5.3 rpg), seven steals, and six blocks in seven U19 World Cup Games, helping Team USA win its ninth FIBA Women’s U19 World Cup gold medal.
A former five-star recruit from West Des Moines Dowling, Clark had a sensational freshman season for Iowa, averaging a Big Ten best 26.6 points per game. She also averaged 5.9 rebounds per game and dished out 214 assists while leading Iowa to the NCAA Sweet 16.
