IOWA CITY, Iowa – Saturday’s football game between Iowa and Iowa State in Ames already was going to be the first of 68 meetings between the two teams as AP ranked opponents.
Now, there’s a little more added to the game after it was announced Tuesday that Iowa is ranked No. 10 and Iowa State is ranked No. 9 in this week’s AP Top 25.
Iowa was ranked No. 18 in last week’s AP poll while Iowa State was ranked No. 7.
The Hawkeyes dismantled No. 17 Indiana 34-6, while the Cyclones struggled against FCS Northern Iowa in a 16-10 victory.
The Hawkeyes have won five straight in the series and six of the last seven dating back to 2013. The Hawkeyes also lead the all-time series 45-22.
The teams did not meet last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019 matchup was a sloppy, rain-soaked marathon that featured multiple lightning and rain delays. The Hawkeyes won 18-17 after a muffed punt by Iowa State give Iowa the ball back late in the game.
In the coaches’ poll, Iowa State came in at No. 10 and Iowa at No. 12.
