Ohio RB flips commitment from Cal to Iowa
IOWA CITY, Iowa – A three-star running back from Ohio is the latest player to commit to Iowa’s 2022 recruiting class.
Kaleb Johnson flipped his commitment from California to Iowa after having visited Iowa this past weekend. Johnson had committed to Cal this past summer, but changed his mind after seeing the Iowa program up close.
Johnson was among a large number of recruits who visited Iowa over the weekend and attended Iowa’s 23-20 victory over Penn State at Kinnick Stadium.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Johnson has scholarship offers from Iowa, California, Michigan State, Iowa State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Marshall, Liberty, Buffalo, Western Michigan,, Toledo, Kent State, Miami (Ohio) and Eastern Kentucky, according to Rials.
He is the 11th player to commit to Iowa in the 2022 class and the second running back, joining Florida native Jaziun Patterson.
Iowa running backs coach Ladell Betts appears to be having a positive impact on recruiting. Betts returned to his alma mater less than a year ago to be the running backs coach and Iowa has since landed two running back recruits.
Betts played running back at Iowa from 1998 to 2001 and is the program’s second all-time leading rusher with 3,686 yards. He also played for nine seasons in the NFL.
