4-Star Indiana OL Luke Burgess Discusses New Offer from Iowa
When it comes to offensive linemen, Iowa Football looks for specific traits. They go beyond size and strength.
The Hawkeyes seek blockers that player through the whistle. Having an edge is a plus.
Luke Burgess met those requirements. The Class of 2023 Palestine (IN) High standout picked up an Iowa scholarship offer on Friday.
“George Barnett, the offensive line coach, is the one recruiting me,” Burgess told HF. “His message is that I am the perfect fit for them and that I check all the boxes for a guy they need on the team.
“He came and watched me workout and said that with my workout intensity and dedication, I would fit perfect.”
Rivals ranks the 6-foot-8, 270-pound junior as a four-star and the No. 27 offensive tackle nationally in the ‘23 class. The service sees him as the fifth best player in his state regardless of position for the cycle.
Arizona State, Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Missouri, Oregon and Purdue have offered scholarships. He’s visited Cincinnati, Indiana, Louisville, Purdue, Boston College and Iowa State.
“I plan to visit (Iowa) in January,” Burgess said. “When I visit, I want to talk to the head coach (Kirk Ferentz) and talk to coach Barnett more to learn more about the program’s specifics.”
He likes what he’s heard about the Hawkeyes so far.
“I know that Iowa is a very hard-working program, who is an Offensive Line U. I really like coach Barnett,” he said.
Burgess is interested in learning more about the school’s academics on his visit.
“I’m not totally set on a major yet, but Construction and Business is one I’m heavily looking into,” he said.
