Iowa receiver/return specialist Charlie Jones will return for another season
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa football team received more good news on Thursday when Charlies Jones announced that he would return for the 2022 season.
His announcement came a day after linebacker Jack Campbell and tight end Sam LaPorta both announced that they also would return for their senior seasons.
Jones, who transferred to Iowa from Buffalo, was named the Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year this past season. He ranked among the top punt and kick returners in the conference, while also playing a key role at receiver.
Jones returned a kick 100 yards for a touchdown against Illinois that helped Iowa overcome an early deficit. Iowa would go on to win 33-23 on Nov. 20th at Kinnick Stadium.
He also finished the season with 21 receptions for 323 yards and three touchdowns.
A native of Deerfield, Illinois, Jones spent two seasons at Buffalo where he was redshirted as a true freshman in 2017.
He then saw action at both receiver and as a return specialist at Buffalo in 2018, recording 18 receptions for 395 yards and three touchdowns.
Jones sat out the 2019 season after transferring to Iowa.
He is now taking advantage of the free Covid year as the 2022 season will be Jones’ sixth season in college.
