Cam Williams Receives Another Look at Iowa Football
'24 Illinois WR A Frequent Hawkeye Visitor
Cam Williams’ relationship with the Iowa Football coaches has advanced beyond small talk and discussing the sport. The conversation has become deeper, more meaningful.
The 2024 Glen Ellyn (IL) Glenbard South High receiver returned to campus for Saturday’s junior day. It represented his fourth stop in town since last summer.
This time he spent time with head coach Kirk Ferentz, receiver coach Kelton Copeland, lead recruiter Seth Wallace and recruiting director Tyler Barnes.
“It’s not always discussions about football,” Williams told HF. “We talked about a lot of general topics about what’s going on with each other.”
While his bond with the coaches has become strong, Williams (6-2, 180) came to Iowa City this time looking for other relationships and knowledge about the Hawkeyes. He received it.
“What I think stood out about this visit was getting more intel from the players themselves, which was the biggest difference. Instead of the players being on the field, we got to actually experience them,” he said.
Williams also learned about more than Iowa Football.
“One thing that was a bit new to me was just the overall knowledge I gained about the actual school instead of just the football program,” he said.
He’s still wants to know more.
“I’m still not really sure how I’d fit in (at Iowa). It’s clearly a well-run program, but I don’t completely know everything,” he said.
“Having been there a lot, I’ve learned a lot about it. I don’t have anything specific in mind about what more I want to find out, but I’m sure more information will pop up as time goes on.”
Two years of high school remain for Williams. Time is on his side.
“As young as I am, I still feel I’m early in my recruitment process with a lot to learn,” he said.
In addition to Iowa, Williams reports scholarship offers from Central Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Purdue, Syracuse, Toledo and Vanderbilt. Northwestern, Notre Dame and Wisconsin were among the schools showing interest in him.
In 11 games as a sophomore, Williams caught 37 balls for 681 yards and 11 touchdowns.
