Chris Terek Receives More Intimate Look at Iowa Football
'23 Illinois O-Lineman Returns to See Hawkeyes for Junior Day After Game-Day Visit
Chris Terek performed well at an Iowa Football camp last summer, putting himself squarely on the Hawkeye radar. The coaches advised him to work on conditioning in pursuit of reaching his potential.
Some recruits might have been put off by the suggestion. The Class of 2023 offensive lineman from Glen Ellyn (IL) Glenbard West High took it to heart.
“When I came for camp last summer, I totally dominated,” Terek told HF. “The only concern they had was my weight. They challenged me to lose the weight.
“I was 350 at their camp last summer and weighed in at 308 (at Saturday’s Iowa junior day). They were very impressed with how I changed my body and stayed focused.”
Terek (6-6, 308) returned to campus after visiting for the Hawkeyes’ game against Penn State in October. He soaked up the game-day atmosphere then. Saturday, the setting proved more intimate.
“It was a lot more personal than the game-day visit,” he said.
Kansas, Duke, seven MAC programs and a couple FCS schools reportedly have offered him scholarships. Iowa, Cincinnati, Illinois, Iowa State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Purdue have been showing interest in him.
“I loved Iowa (junior day). My favorite part was the position meeting with (offensive line) coach (George) Barnett and learning more about the O-Line tradition at Iowa,” he said.
“I learned a lot about their blocking schemes, their rich history of winning and stability in the coaching staff. I talked with coach Barnett and (Seth) Wallace the most.”
After taking part in the position meeting, Terek saw himself thriving in Iowa’s system.
“I think Iowa’s zone-blocking scheme would fit me very well. They play my style of smash-mouth football,” he said.
Terek looks forward to finding out more about the Hawkeyes.
“I want to learn more about Iowa’s traditions and what they do to develop players,” he said.
Construction Management and Engineering or something in the Agriculture are areas Terek is considering for fields of study in college.
