Christian Bentancur Picks Up Iowa Offer During Visit
Hawkeyes Jump In with Illinois Tight End
Christian Bentancur attended junior days for various college football programs throughout the winter. The Class of 2024 Woodstock (IL) Marian Central Catholic High tight end waited patiently for one of them to offer a scholarship as he made the rounds.
Iowa State jumped in first with an opportunity on March 29. A parade followed.
Nebraska and Penn State offered this month. Iowa came forward during a campus visit on Thursday. Later that day, Michigan and Washington jumped in. Northwestern joined in on Friday during a campus visit.
The Hawkeye opportunity felt good.
“I was so excited because Iowa is known as Tight End U,” he told HF.
Iowa played host to Bentancur (6-5, 230) for junior day on Jan. 22. He received another look around on Thursday.
“I liked Kinnick Stadium the most and the locker rooms,” he said.
Assistants Seth Wallace, who recruits Illinois, and tight end coach Abdul Hodge are talking with Bentancur. They’re selling their vision for him and promoting the program’s strong lineage at the position.
“I think I would fit as another great tight end that Iowa has had,” he said.
Bentancur is planning another Iowa visit. He’s not yet sure when that will be.
“I want to learn more about the schedule from a player’s perspective,” he said.
He’d also like to hear more about Iowa’s academics.
“I want to study Finance or Business in college,” he said.
As a sophomore, Bentancur caught 53 passes for 1,165 yards and 16 touchdowns.
