Zachary Tobe Has Hawkeyes Among Top Schools
Florida DB Visiting Iowa Football in June
Zachary Tobe set his official visit to Iowa Football next month. If his social media post represents his feelings, the Florida defensive back really is looking forward to the trip.
The Hawkeyes offered Tobe (6-2, 180) a scholarship on May 13. He announced he’d be officially visiting nine days later.
“I like the culture that surrounds the program, the fact that the coach (Kirk Ferentz) genuinely cares about his players and most of the coaches on the staff are actually former players for the university,” Tobe told HF.
Assistant coach Abdul Hodge is leading Iowa’s pursuit of the Ocoee (FL) High D-Back.
“I like the fact that coach Hodge has been completely honest with me since we met. He didn’t try to sell the school to me but just explained how I could be a good fit for the program,” Tobe said.
Tobe’s Iowa visit will play an important role in his view of the school and town.
“I’ve never been up there, so I just want to see how the campus environment is,” he said.
The Hawkeyes are scheduled to play host to Tobe on June 20-22. He has an Iowa State official June 10 after visiting Ames in January. He’s expected to be at Illinois June 17-19 and North Carolina June 24-26. He’d also like to stop at Boston College.
Tobe reports 21 scholarship offers. Arkansas, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Purdue, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia are among them. He has visits to Central Florida (multiple times), Louisville, Duke, North Carolina and Tennessee already under his belt.
The June trips will decide where he’s committing. He has a date in mind.
“I’ll be committing on July 7, my dad’s birthday,” he said.
Tobe plans on majoring in Business when he gets to college.
In Iowa’s defense, Tobe’s versatility and size could see him at cornerback, safety or Cash.
Rivals ranks him as a three-star recruit. The On3 Consensus shows him as a three-star, the No. 65 safety nationally in the 2023 Class and the 124th best player in Florida for the cycle. Sports Illustrated puts him at No. 43 in his state.
