HF podcast: Don Patterson talks about the state of college football
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa offensive coordinator Don Patterson was the guest on Monday’s Hawk Fanatic radio show and podcast,
He addressed multiple topics, including the impact from name, image and likeness and the transfer portal.
He also talked about USC and UCLA both joining the Big Ten Conference in 2024.
Patterson, who also was the head coach at Western Illinois from 1999 to 2009, will continue being our guest on Mondays throughout the season. His next appearance will be on Monday Aug. 29th to discuss Iowa’s 2022 season opener against South Dakota State on Sept. 3 at Kinnick Stadium.
Patterson issued a warning on Monday saying that Iowa should be prepared to take South Dakota State’s best shot.
“They’re a very good football team,” Patterson said.
Patterson also was an assistant coach at Buffalo from 2011 to 2013 and at Connecticut from 2014-15 before retiring and moving back to Iowa City.
Patterson coached under Hayden Fry at Iowa throughout Fry’s 20-year reign from 1979 to 1998.
